In brief

The World Bank argues that strain on land, air and water is a present economic threat, not only an environmental concern. It reports that over 90% of the world is exposed to poor air quality, degraded land or water stress.

The report also points to hidden costs. Forest loss reduces rainfall and worsens droughts, and air and water pollution damage health, productivity and cognition.
